Shirley, beloved mother, grandmother and wife, was born on March 30th, 1939 and grew up in what she referred to as "The Fabulous Bronx." Her mother emigrated to the U.S. at 21 years old and nine months pregnant in 1920 to flee the hardships of early 20th century Hungary, arriving in Ellis Island on December 4th, 1920. \nEarly in her life, she grew up in a cold water flat where she experienced both love and loss. She found solace with her lifelong friends, and taking in the cultural mecca of The Fabulous Bronx in the 1950s, which included the Fordham Baldies, Dion and the Belmonts of Belmont Avenue, along with the Bronx Zoo, Bronx Park, the Botanical Gardens, Yankee Stadium and other local favorites. It was a melting pot with friends she maintained for a lifetime. The Fabulous Bronx was a source of her salvation, strength and happiness.\nShirley had a love for life built on a foundation of her love for her family, her books, her paintings, her friends, the world around her, and most of all her children and grandchildren.\nShe is survived and will be missed by her husband Arnold, her children Robert (Marla), Marjorie (Richard) and Billy, and her grandchildren Brandon, Gabrielle, Danielle and Jacob. \nIn honor of Shirley, the family encourages donations to Penn Medicine Abramson Cancer Center at https://www.pennmedicine.org/cancer/giving/ways-to-give/tribute-gifts.
