RITA PALKOVICZ

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Rita Palkovicz (March 17, 1936 – January 30, 2025), a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, whose kindness and unwavering spirit touched all who knew her.

Rita’s life was a testament to resilience and love. A survivor of the Holocaust, she emerged from unimaginable hardship with a deep appreciation for life’s beauty. After liberation, she made her way to Canada, embracing new beginnings with courage and hope.

It was in Atlantic City where she met the love of her life, Irving Palkovicz. Rita then began her career working with Israeli Bonds in Philadelphia, a job that reflected her deep connection to her heritage and commitment to supporting the growth of Israel. She took great pride in this work, helping to strengthen the Jewish homeland while also laying the foundation for her own future.

Together, she and Irving built a beautiful life and an enduring legacy. Their entrepreneurial spirit led to the creation of several successful businesses, including Woodcrest Bakery, Cherry Hill Cookie Company, and I-See Optical. But more than their accomplishments, it was the love they shared and the family they built that defined their greatest success.

Rita was a devoted mother to Michael Palkovicz, Jackie [Mehr], and Sharon Migicovsky, and a proud grandmother to Amanda, Jaimee, Colby, Brett, and Rebeca. She found immense joy in being a great-grandmother to Mila and Charlotte, whom she adored.

She was also a loving sister to her younger siblings, Beatrice Singer and Philip Wolman, sharing a lifetime of memories and love with them and their spouses, Bud Singer and Cynthia Wolman. Family was at the center of Rita’s world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Beyond her immediate family, Rita shared a deep bond with her cousins, nieces, and nephews, each of whom she cherished dearly. Whether through heartfelt conversations, shared laughter, or acts of kindness, she made sure they always felt her love and support.

Rita was a guiding light in all her family’s lives, always offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. Whether celebrating joyous occasions or offering support during difficult times, her presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to her extended family.

Rita also had a deep love for travel. Whether it was exploring the rich history and culture of Europe, escaping to the sunshine of Florida, or creating cherished memories with her family at Disney World, she found immense joy in discovering new places. One of the places closest to her heart was Israel, where she felt a profound connection to her heritage and history. Her visits there were deeply meaningful, reinforcing her faith, identity, and love for her people. Traveling was not just about the destinations for Rita—it was about the experiences, the people, and the love she shared along the way.

Rita was a beacon of positivity in her community, always offering a kind word, a helping hand, or a heartfelt smile. Her warmth, generosity, and wisdom left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

She lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of strength, kindness, and resilience will continue to inspire us every day.

We are forever proud of the incredible woman she was.

Rita’s memory will be honored in a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, ensuring that the lessons of history and the stories of survivors like Rita continue to be shared for generations to come.
