It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rabbi Moshe Pomerantz, a beloved and revered community leader. Rabbi Pomerantz was 90 years old.

Born in Ra’anana, Israel, Rabbi Pomerantz dedicated his life to the spiritual, educational, and social well-being of the Jewish people. After graduating from Johns Hopkins University, he completed his rabbinical training at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America where he distinguished himself for his scholarship and was ordained in 1959. He received an honorary Doctorate from JTS in 2007.

Rabbi Pomerantz served congregations in Mexico City, Lincoln, NE, Thousand Oaks, CA, Mercer Island, WA, and New York, becoming a cornerstone of faith, wisdom, and guidance for countless individuals. Through his teaching, counseling, and acts of kindness, Rabbi Pomerantz enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his work within the synagogue, Rabbi Pomerantz was a noted composer, vocalist and concert violinist. His published memoir “No Two The Same” contains a collection of stories and anecdotes from his career. The Rabbi Moshe and Kay Pomerantz Prize in Congregational Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary was named in honor of the Rabbi and his wife.

Rabbi Pomerantz is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kay Kantor Pomerantz and their four children: Cantor Raquel Pomerantz Gershon, Cantor Alisa Pomerantz-Boro, Ari Pomerantz and Joey Pomerantz, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many colleagues, students and community members whose lives he touched.
