Murray La Voe

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Murray La Voe, of Cherry Hill, NJ died May 9, 2026.

He was the husband of Eileen La Voe, father of Dr. Ira (Marcy) La Voe, Raquel (Robert) De Abreu, Dina La Voe and Brian La Voe, grandfather of Sabrina, Molly, Ava, Spencer and Ellie, brother of the late Marlene Levoe, the late Jeffrey Levoe and Jay (Abby) La Voe, uncle of Maddy (Janek) Kubick and the great-uncle of Scarlett.

Murray La Voe lived life to the fullest. He loved family. He took great pride in his family and loved to thank “the man upstairs” for being so good to him. His gratitude for life was evident in everything he did.

Murray was a storyteller at heart. With his eyes closed and in vivid details, he could bring any memory to life. Every story carried a life lesson and wisdom that his children and grandchildren will forever carry with them.

Murray was always dressed to impress. He was rarely seen without a suit jacket no matter the weather or location. He could be seen on the boardwalk and beaches of the Jersey shore in his colorful suit jackets and fashionable sunglasses.

He loved to be outdoors. He loved landscaping, planting flowers, and admiring his backyard. He only stopped cutting his own lawn less than a year ago. He enjoyed feeling the sun on his face, the wind blowing through his hair, appreciating the simple beauty of life.

Murray shared more than sixty wonderful years with Eileen. They lived their lives together and in lock step. Eileen’s voice resonates through the stores, restaurants and neighborhoods of Cherry Hill, NJ and Philadelphia, PA as all who pass by still hear her screaming aloud, “ M—U-R-R-A Y !!!! “

A strong and determined man, Murray was a talented athlete who played baseball, football and track throughout his school years. He attended Dobbins Technical Highschool where he studied beauty culture and co-captained the football team. When asked why he enrolled in beauty culture, he would answer that it was an ideal opportunity to meet women.

He led a rich and colorful life…..attending the University of Miami playing football, living in California as a make-up artist and hair colorist working for the Revlon corporation and later living in Miami, Florida and Baltimore, Maryland.

He worked as a hair colorist on the Philadelphia Main Line before opening his own beauty salons in Marlton, Cherry Hill and Moorestown, New Jersey. As a hair colorist, he brought flamboyance, conversation and warmth to everyone who sat in his chair.

Murray had a deep love for food and the industry itself. During his beauty career, he assisted his wife in various food endeavors including Lunch in a Box and Eileen’s Pies and Cakes that graced the bakery cases of Cherry Hill, NJ-Philadelphia, PA and New York City, NY. After a fifty-year career as a hair colorist, he worked at Sabrina’s Café, where he enjoyed connecting with people. He was a legend at the 9th Street Italian market.

While he leaves behind countless memories for so many people to share, his family will remember him best for the life lessons he taught them with every story he told that are fondly called, “Murrayisms”
