Judith Einhorn

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Judith Einhorn, formerly of Marlton and Loveladies, NJ, died August 20, 2024. She was the wife of Harold Einhorn; mother of Alan (Nina) Einhorn and Bruce (Jorge) Einhorn; grandmother of Emily (Jeff), Ariel (Amishai) and Leila (Josh); great grandmother of Justin and Penelope and sister of Audrey Handler.

Judith’s passion for Judaism and social justice defined a major part of her identity. She was one of the pioneers of the grassroots American Soviet Jewry movement, considered to be one of the most influential movement of American Jews in the 20th century. Along with her husband Harold, she organized the first picket at the Soviet Embassy in 1964 to protest antisemitism behind the Iron Curtain and called for Soviet Jews’ right to emigrate. She also coordinated mass letter writing to Refusenik families and for years personally kept in touch with Soviet Jews in dire need of moral and material assistance.

In 1983, she founded the “Cook for a Friend” program at the David G. Neuman Senior Center in Philadelphia. The program provides meals for low-income seniors struggling with hunger, and still exists today.

Judith adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved spending summers with everyone on Long Beach Island, crabbing, biking, going to garage sales, and taking out her sailboat Lech-Lecha. She liked to discuss ideas and enjoyed traveling to new places, visiting art museums, and taking classes at her synagogue to learn more about Judaism and philosophy.

At the heart of her life was her nearly 80 year love affair with her husband, Harold, who she met in high school. October 15 would have been their 74th wedding anniversary The two were inseparable, traveling the world together, fighting injustice, and raising a loving family. Her memory will be a blessing to all who knew her and the world as a whole.
