John W. Vlacich passed away on Wednesday, January 10, just a few days before his 88th birthday.
John was one of the kindest, gentlest human beings. He was an amazing beloved partner to Samuel Sagenkahn for almost 46 years. John was also one of the most generous uncles - both for his and his extended family.
John grew up in Hoboken and went to Stephens Institute of Technology, Columbia University and Penn State. He lived in Los Angeles in the early 60's and then moved to the NYC area - living in Montclair until the late 70's. He then moved to NYC and lived on East 16th Street for 10 years, then on East 25th Street. John was in the Air Force (and because of timing, never saw active duty) and worked at Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield for more than 30 years. He retired the week of 9/11 and worked at the World Trade Center at the time. Through luck and timing, he was lucky that day. At one point, John saw at least one Theatre or Cabaret performance each week and never tired of it. While he traveled a lot, he spent most of his vacation time in Provincetown, which was really his home away from home
In addition to Sam Sagenkahn, he is survived by sisters-in-law: Barbara Vlacich, Beth Warren & Scott Becker and Lee Brown & Phil Cannato; first cousins: Ginger and Al Curl; nieces and nephews: Jerry & Susan Dioguardi, Jean & Ed Vlacich, Sue Brown & John Vlacich, Barbara Vlacich, Doug & Amy Adler, Daynora & Matthew Brown, Alyce & Brett Warren, Meredith & Robert Warren, Nathan Weiner & Sam Warren, Melanie Brown; 13 great nieces and nephews and some wonderful friends.
May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
