Cherry Hill, New Jersey
Irvin Elliot Richter, of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away early in the morning on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the age of 79. Born in New York City on December 21, 1944, he was raised in Long Island City, NY before his family moved to Somerville, NJ where he attended high school. He graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan West High School in 1962. Irv then received his B.A. in government in 1967 from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and his J.D. in 1980 from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, NJ. He later won distinguished alumnus awards from both schools. He was an entrepreneur, having founded Hill International from his Willingboro, NJ home in 1976. It grew from a one-man consulting firm into a global, publicly-traded construction management firm listed on the New York Stock Exchange that at its peak employed nearly 5,000 people. It later spun off its consulting division into a new company called HKA Global. Today, both Hill and HKA are major firms in the global construction industry working on some of the largest, most complex construction projects around the world. Irv was an avid golfer and served for many years as President of Woodcrest Country Club in Cherry Hill. He also was a long-time member of the Young Presidents’ Organization. Irv and his first wife Janice were married for 37 years before divorcing and had two sons, David and Brady, and six granddaughters. David and his wife Michelle live in Princeton, NJ and raised daughters Rachel, Alexis, Courtney and Olivia. Brady and his wife Jennifer live in Summit, NJ with their daughters Lilian and Maddie. Irv and his second wife Ann Marie were married for 19 years. With a new wife come her children: DJ, Danielle, Angela and Christina. Collectively his grandchildren are at a massive 16 now!!! All of his grandchildren brought him such joy. Irv is survived by the family mentioned above as well as by his older sister Judy Richter and his younger brother Stu Richter, as well as by numerous nieces and a nephew and their families. Irv made his dash by touching so many people's lives. Generous to a fault, Irv was a man filled with a huge spirit and a great sense of humor and he will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family that loved and admired him. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering to remember Irv at his and Ann Marie’s home in Cherry Hill, on Thursday, June 27th, from 5pm-11pm.
