Howard Levine

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Howard S. Levine ’69, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026 at his home in Voorhees, New Jersey. He was one month shy of his 75th birthday and died of complications due to Parkinson’s disease. He was first diagnosed at age 58 and fought valiantly for many years before the disease robbed him of a long and happy life.

Howard was a wonderful husband, father, son, and friend. After graduating from Poly, he headed south to Philadelphia where he attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a degree in accounting. He met his wife, Susan, there and they married in 1974 shortly after her graduation from Penn. While at Penn, Howard became a lifelong Penn basketball fan, co- editor of the yearbook (where he innovated a new moneymaking section that allowed friend groups to purchase pages memorializing themselves), a member of the Sphinx Honor Society, and a Philadelphia Eagles fan. It was clear he would not be returning to live in New York any time soon!

After graduation, Howard accepted an auditing position with Laventhol & Horwarth, a “Big 10” accounting firm and remained there for several years after passing the CPA exam. He then went to work for Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City in its pre-construction days when it was little more than a handful of people working out of a motel room. He stayed with the company, ultimately rising to the position of Vice President Internal Audit where he oversaw the audit function for all of Bally’s casino properties across the U.S.

Looking for a new challenge, Howard left Bally’s and opened his own CPA practice, focusing on the tax preparation and advice needs of individuals and small businesses. To his clients, he was more than their accountant, he was their counselor and confidant. He especially enjoyed developing innovative strategies for clients locked in battles with the IRS to ensure they paid only what they owed, not what the government thought they owed.

After retiring in 2017, Howard and Susan focused their attention on combatting the symptoms of his Parkinson’s disease through movement. Howard took up boxing and spinning, tai chi, and other recommended therapies as well as undergoing advanced medical procedures including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). He developed a passion for smoking meats and making movies; and continued his lifelong interest in growing vegetables and collecting coins. Through it all, Howard never lost his sense of humor, his deep sense of fairness, and his love of family and friends.

Howard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan, and daughters Sarah Levine and Melissa Cooper, and his son-in-law Dustin Cooper. His three grandchildren, Zoe Cooper (6), Miles Cooper (4), and Sofia Cooper (10 months), were an unending source of delight and pride for Howard. He will also be missed by his many friends (some dating as far back as childhood), clients and colleagues, and extended family members. His passing has created a hole in the hearts of all those who knew him.
