Edwin Andrew Wurster III was a lifelong Philadelphia-area resident – father, grandfather, tinkerer, writer, researcher, coach, musician, and, of course, proud Philadelphia sports fan. He died peacefully at his home in Voorhees at the age of 73, surrounded by his family on October 21, 2026, following a six-year battle with cancer.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents: Margaret (Steen) and Edwin Andrew Wurster Jr.; his brother Paul; and cousin Nelson “Butch” Hare. He is survived by his wife Sheryl S. Wizov; son Andrew and wife Anna Zabuha; daughter Eleni and husband Matthew Preziosi; grandson Drew Preziosi and granddaughter Aria Preziosi; granddaughter Wurster-Zabuha due January 2027.
He is also survived by a loving extended family: sister-in-law Joyce Hare, brother James and Maria Wurster; sister-in-law Donna Wurster; brother Robert and Eun Sook Wurster; sisters-in-law Bonita and Tom Bennett; Lynita and Michael Thomas; and Nanette Wizov. Ed leaves behind dozens of incredible nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, each a gem in their own right.
Ed held a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Temple University and a Master’s degree in Management from Colorado Technical University. He was a retired technical writer and illustrator by trade, who also provided IT consulting services to small businesses across the tri-state area. He was a longtime member of the Philadelphia Area Computer Society (PACS), spawning a series of lifelong friendships and interests in different IT technologies. It was here that he met his dear friend, Nigel Gordon.
Ed was a lifelong tinkerer, collecting many self-taught hats over the years. From photographer to developer to woodworker, from guitarist to soccer coach to accountant, he managed to reinvent himself time and time again. Ed’s ability to absorb new skills and technologies has directly shaped the careers and lives of several friends and family members from all walks of life. Later in life, his core passions of writing, technology and family culminated in a deep passion for genealogy. In true fashion, Ed labored not only on his own lineage but with those of friends and extended family too.
He enjoyed traveling the world connecting with family and friends, always on the hunt for new genealogy matches to enrich his understanding of who we are and where we all come from. A lifelong lover and student of music from genres far and wide, Ed attended countless concerts and events over the years, and was a strong supporter of the arts and music education. Ed operated several wildly successful “family businesses” such as Dad’s Taxi and the Bank of Dad, ever in service of his family and friends. He always placed others’ needs squarely above his own, never asking for anything in return but our love. Ed leaves behind a powerful legacy of creativity, thoughtfulness and care that will reverberate for generations to come.
We are forever grateful to the dozens of medical professionals, caretakers and service providers who carried us through these final years, helping Ed along his incredible journey with dignity and grace.
