Dr. Rose Glassberg

The youngest of four children born in Philadelphia to Russian Jewish immigrants, she graduated from West Chester State Teachers College (now West Chester State University) in 1950 and began a distinguished career as an English teacher at Germantown High School (1953-64) then Glassboro State Teachers College, now Rowan University (1964-1991). While at Glassboro/Rowan, she trained hundreds of secondary school teachers, served as the president of the local chapter of the American Federation of Teachers for 18 years, then served as President of the local's retirement chapter for another 25 years.

Dr. Glassberg won many awards for her long service to Rowan and the AFT. Many will remember the large parties she hosted at her condo in Cherry Hill each August bringing together her friends and family, and the monthly short story and poetry classes she taught after moving into Lion's Gate in 2020. Rose will also be fondly remembered for the orange "Schoolmarmalade" she made and sold to raise money for the local AFT chapter's scholarship fund, and the hundreds of hamantaschen she baked and distributed to friends and family.

An avid bridge player, opera fan, and cat-lover, Rose is survived by her three nieces, nephew, and their children and grandchildren.
