Arthur Greene

Dr. Arthur E. Greene of Voorhees, NJ died October 19, 2024. He was the husband of the late Doris M. Greene, beloved father of Marcia (Ronald) Bergman and Karol (Daniel) Baker, beloved grandfather of Andrew (Kelly) Bergman and Matthew (Emily) Bergman and great grandpop of Owen, Zoey, and Divina. Dr. Greene honorably served in WWII in the US Army, receiving the Purple Heart after taking shrapnel on Omaha Beach in Normandy during the second wave of the D-Day invasion. After WWll, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his B.S. He received Masters degrees in virology and microbiology, and a D.Sc. from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science. Dr. Greene was a research scientist who worked to develop cures for human viral diseases, and worked with Dr. Jonas Salk on the vaccine to cure polio. He was the head of the Cell Biology Department at The Coriell Institute for Medical Research for 35+ years and was an adjunct professor at several area colleges and universities.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd at 1 P.M. at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ. Shiva will be observed at his late residence immediately following the burial until 8 P.M. Contributions may be made to Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice, The Penn Fund, or the Coriell Institute for Medical Research.
